In this episode of EmpowHER's "HER Health Minute," Dr. Connie Mariano discusses a study that claims that positive emotions may lead to a healthier heart.
Does a positive attitude determine if you have a healthy heart? According to a new study, absolutely.
I am Dr. Connie Mariano, Chief Clinical Officer for EmpowHER, and according to a study by Carissa Low and colleagues at the University of Pittsburgh, negative emotions like anger, hostility, suppression and stress are indeed bad for the heart.
For women, depression plays a major role, increasing the chances of heart disease and otherwise healthy test subjects. Women are more than twice as likely to suffer from depression, than men.
So what about the impact of positive emotions on the heart? The study finds that optimism, emotional vitality and supportive relationships reduce the risk of heart disease, along with exercise and a healthy diet.
So be sure to talk to your doctor about risks you may have and how a positive outlook can keep your heart healthy. I am Dr. Connie Mariano with everything you need to know about heart health.
