Is it normal for my arm muscle in my shoulder to hurt 2 weeks after flu shot?

January 2, 2009, I was in the hospital for a work related injury and was given a shot of Demerol (spelling?) for pain and an anti nausea shot. Well it is over two weeks now, since the shots, and I am experiencing the same pain as everybody above. If I dont move my arm, its fine...but if I lift my arm shoulder height or reach across my body, the pain is almost unbearable. My co-worker who was in the ER with me when I got the shot said that it looked like the needle bent when the nurse gave me the shot, but who knows. I've been on pain meds and out of work, since the injury, so it wasn't from me doing anything strenuous. I started taking advil instead of the pain meds prescribed to me and thats when I started to notice the pain in my ar. My work injury had nothing to do with my upper body, so the only thing it could have been was/were the shot(s) I received.

I have a friend that is going through the whole arm/shoulder deep throbbing pain down the elbow. She has been on Celebrex since Nov. 1st
a month and a half of physical therapy. Went today and had MRI done of shoulder and when she lays down is when the most amount of pain happens down the arm, needless to say the MRI was very painful. No results yet but the high injection sites sound like the Brachial plexes of the shoulder and lower Cervical area are inflammed from injection pump which mimic rotator cuff syndrome. Hope everyone can find answers, be persistant with your doctors and if they will not help you keep looking until you find one who does.

Jeannie, thank you for writing about your experience. It's startling that it's more than two months later and you're still experiencing these symptoms. We'll be interested to see what you find out.

I had the Flu shot On Nov 5th 2008. I annually get the flu shot because Iam a nurse and normally work the flu season. I recieved my flu shot this year and my arm has throbbing pain in the deltoid area, numbness, tingling,weakness and a slow response when I try to move it. I had just been massaging it while in the shower for comfort. This morning this morning my arm was aching so I actually took time to look at the shot site and the imprint of the Bandaid can still been seen and the discoloration has a marked imprint. I am going to the urgent care today and see what is going on. I will be writing back with the update as soon
as possible.

Interesting. I'm on the other side of the Atlantic, and I have the same issues as you lot. Flu jab in November, arm pain even now. It's maybe not as bad as it was, but it seems to radiate from the injection site, and can affect shoulder, elbow depending on the position of the arm. Definitely weakens the arm, and sometimes get mild pins and needles sensation in the hand.

Very very annoying... this was my first ever flu injection.

Wow---I'm surprised there were so many other people with pain from their flu shot!

G Scott--I did not have pain in both shoulders; to me, that would indicate something else. I only had pain in one shoulder (definitely a muscle pain, not a joint pain), in the exact location that I had the flu shot injected. Has your Chiropractor helped?

It is now January, and my shoulder is just now feeling better. It's been 2 months, and I still have a little muscle weakness when moving my are muscle above my head or in a forward position.

Is anyone else's shoulder/arm muscle feeling better or worse since your last posting on this topic?? Has anyone talked with their shot-provider and received any additional information?
