Dr. Laris discusses restrictions on alcohol, exercise and aspirin, before and after undergoing hair transplant surgery.
Dr. Laris:
One of the other questions I get asked is what are the pre-op and post-operative follicular unit hair transplantation restrictions? Do I have to stop everything that I am normally doing?
Normally, what we like to see is patients stop aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like Motrin, Aleve – things like that because they will thin the blood and cause excessive bleeding during the procedure.
We ask them to stop alcohol three days to five days before the procedure. Stop major exercise for three to five days before the procedure, because all those things will thin the blood or raise the core blood pressure and cause bleeding during the procedure.
After the procedure we like you to stay away from aspirin, alcohol and those things for about two days and exercise.
You can start walking and doing normal light exercise three days after the procedure and you can do any exercise you want after the sutures are removed so that’s seven days after the procedure.

I know There would still be a lot of swelling and special guidelines and medications are given to help with the healing process.
I am more concern on the right product to use such as shampoo after hair transplant? Would my surgeon would suggest a product?
How many days would I need to take a leave from work?
