In this edition of EmpowHER's "HER Daily Dose", Bailey Mosier examines a study that answers the question if bringing your dog to work can boost office morale.
Hi, I’m Bailey Mosier. This is your EmpowHER HER Daily Dose.
Work is always more fun when you actually like the people you work with, but what about our friends of the four-legged variety? Some recent research says we might actually be more productive in the office if we could bring our dogs to work.
Researchers from Virginia Commonwealth University conducted a study at a service-manufacturing-retail company in Greensboro, N.C., which has 550 employees and allows up to 30 pet dogs on company premises each day. They found that dogs in the workplace seemed to help reduce job-related stress for their owners and make work more satisfying for other employees who came into contact with the dogs.
Stress is a major cause of absenteeism, poor morale and burnout and can lead to significant declines in productivity and resources, but the researchers say allowing employees to bring their pets to work may serve as a low-cost, wellness intervention that could significantly boost job satisfaction.
