We have sort of a love-hate relationship with vacations and maybe you feel the same way. Find out how you can enjoy those vacation getaways and avoid packing on those pounds while on vacation.
I feel like I have a love-hate relationship with vacations and maybe you feel the same way. I’m part of the 36 percent of Americans who try to lose weight before we go on vacation and I’m also part of the 29 percent who always gain weight while on vacation. I love traveling, yes, but just wish there was a way to live it up and then zip it up – my pants, that is, when I head home. Maybe there is.
They key to vacation and not gain weight is to enjoy all things in moderation. Here are a few tips to get you started:
Pack a healthy and sensible snack to avoid overpriced and unhealthy options at the airport.
If you have a long layover, walk around – and no, not on the moving walkway. You’ll have plenty of time to sit on the plane.
If frozen margaritas are your thing, have one the first day of your vacation and then switch to skinnier cocktails like vodka soda water or white wine spritzers.
If there’s no gym at your hotel, practice yoga on the beach in the morning or so jumping jacks in your hotel room. Go exploring by foot in the daytime and go dancing at nighttime.
Those are just a few ways to vacation and not feel weighed down – literally – when you return home. Do you have any other suggestions or tips? If so, feel free to leave them below. Here’s to safe, healthy and happy traveling to all.
I’m Bailey Mosier and I’ll see you next time for another HER Daily Dose.
