Dr. Kogan discusses the alternative treatments available for alcoholism.

Dr. Kogan:
Women with alcoholism, I advise, I feel very strongly about them building a strong relationship with a 12-step program which is commonly known as Alcoholics Anonymous. There is a wonderful facility in New York called Hazleton House, which is practicing the philosophy of AA. I am not sure about the analogue on the West Coast, or in the Midwest, but I am sure that it has its affiliations.

And 12-step programs, in general, provide a very nurturing environment for taking these women, isolating them from the drug in question, from alcohol, from providing support, emotional guidance and the meetings, of course, during which they reinforce their dissociation from the drug of choice which in this case happens to be alcohol.
