Dr. Kogan describes how spending time on the Internet at night can cause insomnia.

Dr. Kogan:
We are listening. We are looking. We are smelling. We are touching. Being on the Internet activates our visuals, our hearing, our tactile, and activating and over-exciting our sympathetic autonomic nervous system keeps our central nervous system very active. It’s virtually impossible to have a normal relaxation response immediately after getting off the Internet or watching television.

I thus advocate spending half an hour before you go to sleep either taking a hot shower or a bath or doing some relaxation or stretching or yoga, breathing techniques–something away from your computer and away from your TV.
