Dr. Kogan describes her motivation for helping women with diabetes.
Dr. Kogan:
When I talk about diabetes, I’d like to give you just a little story before we start, and I’d like to tell you that my connection with diabetes is very personal. I have lost two grandmothers before I reached my teenage years to endstage diabetic renal failure. One of them had her leg amputated below the knee, and another had her toe amputated. Both ladies were severely ill, and it has certainly made a huge impact on my life and on my career, and it has made me extremely aware of how life-threatening and fatal diabetes can be and how important it is for us to intervene preventively and intervene early to save people from devastating consequences of not controlling it.
Having said that, I also would like to mention that in my early years I have done some extensive research and hard benching research in diabetes, and I received a scholarship from National Institute of Health in the field of diabetes. I am a member of American Diabetic Association and many, many of my patients are diabetic type 1 and type 2, and here at Longevity Institute at Doctors at Trump Place, we try to take a new and innovative holistic approach to this terrible and very ubiquitous disease.
