Kim provides advice for all women who are caring for others and dismissing their own physical and emotional health.

Kim:
It’s been in commercials and everything but I don’t think women pay attention to it. You’ve got to take care of yourself or you can’t take care of everybody else. If you don’t do the basic things to take care of yourself; if you don’t get some exercise; if you don’t get enough sleep; if you don’t watch what you are eating so that you are eating the right things to fuel both your body and your brain, you are not going to be able to take care of anybody else and it’s not easy to do because, you know, you do the bites and the licks and the tastes, the BLTs when you are in the kitchen. You are making something for your kids that you know you shouldn’t eat but you still got to have a taste but to make sure it’s okay. You are doing all these things out of love for someone else that’s actually hurting yourself.

When you are making yourself totally available to your family all the time and you are not taking the time to go out for the walk or go to the gym you are actually hurting your family because the worst possible thing could be when you can’t take care of your family and when you are in congestive heart failure you can’t take care of anybody; you can’t take care of yourself.

So, and it sounds . . . it’s almost like. “Yeah, it’s easy for you to say, you know, you don’t know my situation.” Every woman has the same situation. Every woman has, it’s biologically in us to take care of other people. It’s, we’re hormonally driven to do that. Sorry, we are, and so we have to take care of ourselves. We have to stop and look back and say, “Okay, did I take even 20 minutes to rest today? Did I eat the right things? Have I mentally gone through all the right foods and have I gotten them into my body today,” and it’s every day. It’s not, “I can do that on the weekends.”
