Dr. Cedric Garland discusses if sunscreen decreases a woman's ability to absorb vitamin D.
Dr. Cedric Garland, Dr.P.H., F.A.C.E.:
Well, it eliminates your ability to make it. Vitamin D is made from cholesterol in the skin, and if sunscreen is in the mix, a person can’t make any vitamin D, and so it prevents the synthesis of vitamin D.
