Dr. Mullis explains how a pelvic fracture is diagnosed.

Dr. Mullis:
The diagnosis starts with a history and then a physical exam, and then the first test is usually an x-ray, at least the first test by an orthopedic surgeon looking for a fracture.

Many times in addition to an x-ray, we will get something called a CT scan, or a computed tomography scan, and that’s just a higher resolution study looking at the bones of the pelvis that you can’t see as well with just an x-ray itself.
