Hello,nice to meet you all.
I had my thyroids removed just over a year a go,I have had trouble getting the meds right but slowly getting there.
I had Mirena IUD removed a few months ago after having it over 4 years,(I had it to control heavy bleeding)I found out it was the cause of a lot of my medical problems, weight gain, cysts on my left ovary, breast lump, and my thyroid being removed, now I am trying to get my hormones sorted out after Mirena mucked them up totally.
I know some women do ok on mirena, I thought it was the best thing for the first few years until I realised what it was doing to me and then went to the doctor and got it out straight away,I feel much better now all though I havnt lost any weight yet,Im working on that, its very hard to get it off.
I gained 2 stone on mirena, before that I stayed at the same weight no matter what I ate all my life, never had a problem with weight,I look like Im 6 months pregnant because of the bloating and Im still depressed about my weight.
I go through the Mirena crash still, I hope it goes away real quick.
Any how if you are interested in reading my full story and that of other women with mirena problems and the horrific things(perforated Uterus,IUD lost in their body, tubal pregnancies, death,it goes on and on) that have happened to them ,have a look at my Mirena help site below...

Just came across this- had to post my two cents-
I had mine for 6+ years... had extreme weight gain (30+ lbs) with no known reason. The dr. was extremely concerned. I also had some mental issues- manic depression to the point of being on suicide watch a couple of times, my marriage was destroyed, and I come to find out it COMPLETELY destroyed my thyroid. Completely. I had it removed and my mood is better- almost a completely different person. I'm taking thyroid medicines and I'm feeling more alive. I can't believe what little information is let known to the public and how mis-information is frequent in the medical community in favor of treating a symptom rather than curing the cause...

In April 2008 I had my youngest son, afterwards my midwife really talked me into getting a Mirena. I agreed because she made it sound so great and convenient. I had it for 18 months. During that time I had NO bleeding to speak of. Not a period, not a spot or smathering of one. I gained weight, and had severe irritability and depression issues. I had it removed in January 2010 because my husband and I decided we wanted another baby. The first week, I was amazed at the amount of mental clarity I felt. I felt... different. I didn't feel irritable and irritated. I couldn't believe it. 10 days later, horror started. I started bleeding so badly that leaving the bathroom was not an option (literally). This went on for about 4 days, followed by another 10 or so of fairly heavy bleeding. I thought I would just wait out that first one and then I would be okay - it is now 18 months later and I have dealt with nearly constant bleeding for 18 months. My cycles are impossible to time, and I bleed for sometimes 3 and 4 weeks straight - heavy. I went to the ER one night and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong with me. I saw my doctor this morning, and she told me that more than likely my problem is related to having the IUD. Next week I have to have bloodwork, an ultrasound, and a uterine biposy to check for cancer. Cancer. Seriously? I'm 26, I have 3 small children and I have to worry about cancer now. As if the constant bleeding for the last 18 months wasn't enough, as if TTC'ing for 18 months unsuccessfully wasn't enough - now I have cancer to worry about. I have heard nothing but bad things about Mirena and I wonder how it can still be marketed as this wonderful thing to unsuspecting women who trust their doctors. In hindsight, my doctor's office was probably making a profit off of promoting that product and it disgusts me and I regret every single day having that thing put in. If I could take it back, I would. It has brought me nothing but misery... I am yet to find anyone with issues quite as severe as I've had, but please contact me if you are reading this message and are going through something similar. I would love to hear from you! Two years ago I got my mirena because I was nineteen and having my second child. At first things were okay but for the last six months I have had horrible pains all through my sides and back. On top of that I have had a rash from my legs to my feet for the last five months. I just went to the dermotologist and found out that my rash was from having severe infections. I went to the doctor and I have had an infection in my cervics from my mirena. So that explains my sides and back hurting and my rash. But to make matters worse I wanted more children in the future and now chances of infertility are high and the chances of more children in my future are slim to none. So if you plan on having more children you might want to try a different birth control than this one. I am having mine removed in two days and now praying for a miracle that one day I will have another child. This thing is more of a hassle than anything. Good luck to all that have the mirena and all that get it. I hope you luck with it is better than mine.

Hi everyone, I am in Ireland.
I had my Mirena fitted five years ago.
About six months later I started suffering from the odd, what I would describe, panic attacks (feeling faint, palpatations, low blood pressure feeling, etd.). This only happened every few months in the beginning but then progressed to dizziness, etc. and generally feeling not 100% all the time! I finally got diagnosed with Vertigo last June 2010 (Serc prescribed). I NEVER connected the dots until I was researching online Merina removal and replacement (just to generally keep on top of my birth control). Then I was completely surprised to come accross all the other womean onlin suffering with the same and similar side effect as me. I never connected it all with my Mirena.
Anyhow, I had it removed 3 weeks ago and although I've had some wobbly days I can honestly say that I am feeling much better now. To recall I have to write down the side effects I have not been suffering since removal e.g.: No Vertigo! No panic Attacks! No faintlike feelings! I am left with low blood pressure feelings at night and first thing in morning. I am moving my head slowly and drinking lots of water. I am now reading all about the Mirena Crash!
The doctor who removed my coil discounted any connection with Mirena but I am not convinced. Are there any doctors out there who can shed some light?
I am now looking forward to literally getting my life back, the next few months will tell after my hormones finally settle. My poor kids and husband have born the brunt of these side effects. My kids think mummy is always sick with Vertigo. It has affected my everyday life so badly. I run a small business dealing upfront and hands on with the public and do not have the luxury of taking time off, so I have had to drag myself in and out feeling awful and try to pretend I am okay.
I have serious concerns about the side effects from Mirena. . . . WHEN IS ANYONE FROM THE MEDICAL PROFESSION OR DRUG COMPANY GOING TO LISTEN TO US?

I had mirena placed May '08. After discovering a lump in my right breast in September '08 and subsequent testing, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in December '08. I received annual mammograms (last one October '07), never having any complications. Although my GYN didn't feel the mirena had anything to do with the complication, I am convinced in my spirit that there has to be a link somewhere. I have no family history. A friend of mine, same age, had the mirena placed in March '08 and she was diagnosed with breast cancer Oct '08. Needless to say, after 4 months of chemotherapy, I had the IUD removed. It was just too close for comfort.

Well girls, here's my story...I had my Mirena removed two days ago. It has been in for three years. I loved not having to mess with condoms and the pill gave me a mini stroke when I was 19! So, I've stayed away from contraception. As the old story goes, if it sounds too good to be true...well, you know the rest! I'm 41, two years ago I was diagnoted with an overactive thyroid. I eat like an elephant and don't gain weight. I have a tilted uterus, so insertion was worse than childbirth. I cramped and bled on and off for 9 months. Around the time of my thyroid issues my head started itching. ALOT! To the point of being covered with hives! Then when I would work, if there was pressure anywhere on my body, it would swell to the size of a lemon, itch, burn and hurt. It has progressed to the point of almost dying last night. I had anaphalaxis set in and my throat swelled and hurt so bad I could hardly talk. Went to the ER, from all of the shots they have given me, today is the best I have felt in weeks. Everyday I was waking up with huge itchy painful welts in different places on my body. On days that I had to work I would be in so much pain at night I couldn't stand it. I also have a painful lump above my right breast. Have had cysts. I loved not having a period though. My extreme bleeding was the reson for my decision to have it inserted. I hope and pray that Mirena was to blame for everything!!!! I guess I'll have to wait and see and take the 50 drugs they just prescribed for allergies. UNKNOWN allergies! Good luck all!~

I had my IUD inserted w/ extreme pain about 2 months ago. I went in for my 8 week check up and it wasn’t there. I had to go in for an ultrasound and still it was no where to be found. Later that day I went in for a x-ray and it finally showed up in my right hip. I have to go in for surgery to have it removed sometime soon. I wish my doctors would have gone over the risks of this a little more with me. I wonder how common this really is? Do I now have a hole in my uterus? Will I be able to have more children? I am really worried about this.
