Hello,nice to meet you all.
I had my thyroids removed just over a year a go,I have had trouble getting the meds right but slowly getting there.
I had Mirena IUD removed a few months ago after having it over 4 years,(I had it to control heavy bleeding)I found out it was the cause of a lot of my medical problems, weight gain, cysts on my left ovary, breast lump, and my thyroid being removed, now I am trying to get my hormones sorted out after Mirena mucked them up totally.
I know some women do ok on mirena, I thought it was the best thing for the first few years until I realised what it was doing to me and then went to the doctor and got it out straight away,I feel much better now all though I havnt lost any weight yet,Im working on that, its very hard to get it off.
I gained 2 stone on mirena, before that I stayed at the same weight no matter what I ate all my life, never had a problem with weight,I look like Im 6 months pregnant because of the bloating and Im still depressed about my weight.
I go through the Mirena crash still, I hope it goes away real quick.
Any how if you are interested in reading my full story and that of other women with mirena problems and the horrific things(perforated Uterus,IUD lost in their body, tubal pregnancies, death,it goes on and on) that have happened to them ,have a look at my Mirena help site below...

I had the Mirena in from May 2006 until July 2009. I removed it for 2 reasons: 1) Going to attempt to conceive our third child, and 2) I believe it was causing great mood swings, facial hair growth, acne, etc. I was told by my doctor to wait 1 full cycle after having it removed to attempt to conceive, which we did. I got pregnant in September. In October, I went to the ER with severe abdominal pain. It was dicovered that I was pregnant with twins, however 1 was stuck in my tube. I had emergency surgery to remove my falloping tube. There is NO history of twins in my family, I have NO history of STD's or PID, and we did not use IVF or any other fertility treatment.

IUD contraceptives are Toxic Pesticides!
*Levonorgestrel in IUD is Toxic Pesticide!is Toxic Pesticide!
The intrauterine system (IUS) is a long acting reversible hormonal contraceptive device that is placed in the uterus. An IUS has a hormone cylinder that releases a progestin (progestogen) called levonorgestrel. The only brand currently available is the T-frame LNG-20 IUS, marketed as Mirena Coil by * Schering Health and * Berlex Laboratories (*Bayer).
The term IUS is used in the United Kingdom to distinguish the hormonal intrauterine contraceptive from copper-based intrauterine devices (IUDs). In the United States, all intrauterine contraceptives are referred to with the term IUD.
Progestasert was the first hormonal uterine device, developed in 1976 and manufactured until 2001. It released progesterone, was replaced annually, and had a failure rate of 2% per year.As of 2007,
the LNG-20 IUS - marketed as Mirena by Bayer - is the only IntraUterine System available. First introduced in 1990, it releases levonorgestrel (a progestogen) and may be used for five years
Norgestrel
Norgestrel is a progestin used in hormonal contraceptives. Norgestrel is a mixture of two stereoisomers, dextro-norgestrel (CAS# 797-64- and levo-norgestrel (CAS# 797-63-7). Only levonorgestrel is biologically active. Therefore, while some medications may contain dextronorgestrel, they are often labeled in terms of their levonorgestrel content only, ignoring the inert isomer.
Mechanisms of contraceptionThe Mirena (*IUD) is intended to initially release a daily dose of 20 micrograms levonorgestrel (a progestin).

I had Mirena put in 4 months ago and I'm still experiencing bleeding. My doctor said that was normal at my last visit, but I think it is ridiculous to bleed everyday for 4 months. Also, from reading some of these other postings I see that some people had mood swings. I have been noticing lately that I fly off the handle for the simplest things and have trouble calming down. I am also having this weird heat that radiates down my left leg. Don't know if this is related too? Any thoughts?

I have had the Mirena IUD for over a year now, would not say that I have gained any significant amount of weight, I keep fluctuating between 5-7 lbs up and down. I still have periods like before (so much for them going away), but I get no mood swings, no cramps, no PMS, but the bleeding is a LOT heavier than before Mirena. So I have mixed feelings, I like the convenience of not having to think about birth control, but dislike that it made my periods heavier. I am considering removing it soon and having either the oblation procedure or ESure.

I just wanted to say that I've had problems with mirena. I've gain 20 pounds. I've had it for a year. I've experienced headaches, nausea, sever stomach pains, a cyst on my ovaries. I just had it taken out yesterday. I had to have surgey to remove it because it was not where it was suppose to be. Originally they were going to use a small microscope and find it then pull the strings out but when but when I woke up after surgery, I had 2 small incisions, one on side my belly button and one under my stomach, they had to use other method we talked about. I agree mirena isn't for everyone but if it does that to women and it results to surgery I think it should be off the market.

I've had the mirena for a year now and I'm considering taking it out. I haven't had any bad side effects except that I still get my period and light cramping at times. I'm just worried about it perpetrating or falling out on its own. Recently I felt the string and it's longer than usual so I'm concerned. I use to just be able to feel the tip bit now it's like curled and long. So I'm calling tomorrow to get it checked on and maybe even removing it.
