Venous lake on my lip

I have this dark blue/purple lesion on my lip that keeps getting bigger. I went to see the dermatologist and she said that it's a venous lake. She said it was nothing I had to worry about. Does anyone else have one or know of someone who does? If so, what was your/their treatment?

I had one on my upper lip and it would get sore so the dermatologist numbed my lip and cauterized it. That was several years ago and it has not returned. I hope this helps.

Hi, I just had the same procedure and have been searching for information about the healing process. I'm on day 9 of healing and my lip still looks pretty bad, enough that I haven't been out of the house for the entire time. Also, did the spot fill in normally? My looks like a a small depression shaped like a bowl. Did you do anything in particular to help your lip heal?
Thank you, Hannah

Hannah, I wanted to respond to your post as I see that you have replied to a post made in Sept of '09. You might not get a response from this poster if she does not have it set up to notify her when someone posts to this website . To somewhat answer your question, everyone has had different results depending on what procedure they had done and healing times differ with each person. If you are referring to bruising, I was told that it could take several months for the blood to be reabsorbed. Even though I didn't have the same procedure as you (I had laser treatments), I was given some cream to put on it to keep it from drying out. They also couldn't stress enough the importance of using sunscreen everyday as the lips are very sensitive to sunlight and damage. I would encourage you to read what people have shared here. We are learning from each other.
Good luck Hannah and I hope you have a good result. Keep us 'posted' :-)

I also have one it started as a "red freckle" then it just up and bled one day while I was brushing my teeth. It was fine for awhile and now its starting to bleed again. I went to and ENT specialist and I am going to have it removed.

You can find a Vascular Specialist by going to the Vascular Disease Foundation website and searching by state for a physician.

I just noticed your post. I am a semiprofessional flutist and have had a venous lake in the corner of my upper lip for some years. The vein is becoming larger and more unsightly. I wonder whether there's something about flute playing that contributes to this problem.

Interesting....I'm by no means a professional flutist but did play the flute in high school. I've had venous lakes since high school and each time removed they have come back. Surgically removed 3 times, and many laser treatments that srinked it for a short while but came back again. I am at a loss--seems like this shouldn't be that hard to treat.
