my AF arrives with no warning, no pattern so I don't know what NOT to do. Sometimes in my sleep.
I gave up caffein long ago, I don't drink. I take high blood pressure meds wityh a hert rate reducer added. Yes I have a lot of stress. I just ended a 30 yr marriage.
I am 68 in very good health. I was just turned down by a Long Term Care Ins agency for AF. I want to have an abilation but Kaiser won't do it. I can't live like this!!

Hi Judi - I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. The Stop Afib organization is a great resource for patients, are you familiar with them? They have a website and other resources, and this page from their site lists multiple resources to help patients. http://www.stopafib.org/resources.cfm
The group was founded by Mellanie True Hills, who says she is now cured of atrial fibrillation. She created StopAfib.org as part of the American Foundation for Women's Health to share what she and other atrial fibrillation patients have learned and to provide information and answers to questions.
StopAfib.org is a patient-to-patient resource to help you control your atrial fibrillation so it doesn't rule your life.
Mellanie is also the leader of our afib support group on EmpowHER and you may want to join the group and pose your questions there, as fellow patients can usually give you the best information. You can find it here: https://www.empowher.com/groups/Atrial-Fibrillation
Hope this helps!

thank you for responding. Yes I discovered the web site you mentioned and read the story
January 7, 2011 - 6:31pmof it's founder. I plan to see a cardiac Dr outside of Kaiser for a second opinion. Perhaps then I can convince Kaiser I need a procedure. I have other problems like carotid artery blockage (mild) that I'm sure exaserbates AF. I've lost so much time beause of AF and afraid to do anything. Do you know if water aerobics or just walking would help?

Hi Judi - This is what I was able to find on exercise on the patient site., which is http://www.a-fib.com/ It sounds like exercising is fine, but you need to monitor your heart rate. Exercise should help as it will stimulate your circulatory system and is good for your overall physical and mental health. See specifics below.
Please visit the sites I've provided and explore around a bit. There should be a lot of good information to help you in your daily life, and to also help you prepare for seeking the second opinion visit. I wish the best for you. Pat
"Can I exercise if I have Atrial Fibrillation? Should I exercise?
It's really a judgment call for you and your doctor whether or not you should exercise. In A-Fib when you first start exercising, your heart rate tends to be very rapid. Also, the A-Fib reduces your overall capacity to exercise, because your heart isn't pumping properly.25
January 7, 2011 - 8:52pmThese observations aside, if you can exercise without your heart rate becoming too rapid and you feel like exercising, you probably should. (In some types of A-Fib, moderate exercise may actually help you come out of an attack of A-Fib.)
If you want to monitor your heart rate while you exercise, you can wear a heart rate monitor (such as the Polar Heart Rate Monitor available in sporting goods stores. Nike and Garmin also make heart rate monitors). It straps around your chest and transmits your heart rate to a watch you wear. You can set it to sound an alarm if your pulse exceeds a certain rate.
