Ok so me and my husband are TTC our second and it is so frustrating not knowing if I am or not. My Last fist day was Feb. 21st so between March 3rd -9th we were trying.....now it is March 15th and I have been feeling sick and been having cramps and really want it to mean early preggo symptoms! Can this be and when can I test? Thanks so much for your help~

Generally speaking, you can test when you miss your expected period. Some pregnancy tests say they can detect the pregnancy hormones up to 5 days before your period is expected, but for the most accurate results, you may want to wait. If your period was Feb. 21st, and you are on a 28-day cycle, you could expect your next period or a positive pregnancy test on or about March 21st.
Here is the website where I found this information: American Pregnancy Association
Good luck, and let us know what you find out.

My period just came on today. But its only a light brown spotting. I have been under a lot of stress lately could this be the reason. It is usually light at the beginning of most of my periods but I would like to know if this is normal or not?

Hi Anonymous,
It is possible you are having a different type of period than you are accustomed to. Assuming there isn't any risk of pregnancy, you period may come on heavier soon. Keep track of any symptoms in case you end up needing to see a doctor for period irregularity, or some other reason.

I have been having a similar problem. I started my last period on the 21st of feb. and am not due for my next one until the 21st of march. I have been off birth control for about a month and a half, my husband and I are trying to get pregnant. Two weeks after my period I started having horrible cramps, I've seen that most have said their cramps are mild but these are far worse than any period cramps I've ever had. I usually don't cramp until I actually start. I don't have sore breast but I do feel the need to sleep way more than usual. I know it's to early to know if i'm pregnant with an early test, but I was wondering if a doctor could tell you even earlier than an early pregnancy test can?

Hi Stephanie,

Unfortunately, not even a doctor can tell you if you're pregnant at this point. The early pregnancy test detects the hcg hormone and about 3-5 days before your next period is usually the earliest it can be detected. Keep in mind that sometimes the pill itself will keep everything regular-- your period, cramps under control, etc. Hang tight and you can test for pregnancy in a couple of weeks.

Good Luck and keep us posted!

Me and my boyfriend had sex, he did not penetrate me because he could not fit and he did not ejaculate, there were absolutely no fluids released from him. There was, however genital contact without the condom. This happened about six days after my period. Because there were not much major fluids released and the date in which it happened, i'm assuming I can't really get pregnant but is there a high chance that I can still get pregnant or should I really not be worrying?

Hi Anonymous,
Don't worry about this time. But given the sexual nature of your relationship, I would urge you to proceed with extreme caution. The activity you did was risky in that it takes a second for what you did to progress to full-on intercourse. Please prepare yourself now with education and contraception so you're ready next time you are intimate with your boyfriend. Condoms are 98% effective at preventing pregnancy when used correctly and every time you are intimate. The Withdrawal method is only about 70% effective, and the birth control pill is about 99% effective when taken as directed.

Thanks. In the beginning, we first used a condom but he took it off when he wasn't able to penetrate me. I'm just too tight. I know even if he does not ejaculate, there is still a small amount semen let out when he's erected. I'm hoping that since there was such a small amount and it was only a few days after my period, nothing will happen. I'm not sure if I would like to go on the pill because of the side effects. Many members in my family have not responded well to the pill and I think there is a chance I won't either. Because it was only semen (and semen has a very low sperm count); I've read that theres an extremely slim chance that I am. Its making me paranoid because I know we are not emotionally ready for a child so I just wanted to know the ratio on the chances of me getting pregnant.

It is true, the activity you explained is pretty low risk for getting you pregnant--we can't give you odds or ratios beyond that.
Condom with a lubricant may help your situation to avoid pregnancy since you are not inclined to try birth control pills. Also wanted to mention that there are several different types of birth control pills. It is not uncommon to need to try a couple different ones to find one that's right for you. If you're a smoker, you may want to avoid the pill anyway as it comes with some increased risks.
Good luck.
