I have done some reading on both. His first cousin is autistic. My son started "changing" around the age of three. He is now pretty much antisocial, can't hold a job, lives with his father and sister but has no friends of his own. He is pleasant but has nothing to say. I get only one word answers to my many questions, just trying to start a conversation with him. He has a couple of very intense interests and knows facts no one else would know in these areas! Is it possible to get an Asperger's diagnosis at his age? He really needs to get social security because he can't hold a job and I fear for his future!

Dear Anonymous,
Unfortunately, this isn't a diagnosis that is left for us to make since we are not doctors. However, I can tell you that Asperger's can sometimes go unrecognized until adulthood. Go with your gut, if you are not 100% convinced that your son has schizoid personality disorder, then please consider a second opinion.

Hope this helps and I'm sorry that we cannot give a more definitive answer,
