Have you had experience with the Wiley Protocol?

Has anyone had experience using the Wiley Protocol of hormone replacement therapy?

It is a method where bioidentical hormones are prescribed and are given transdermally -- through the skin -- in a patent-pending cream. A primary

difference between this protocol and some others is that the hormonal levels rise and fall, similar to the way a woman's normal cycle did when she was still menstruating.

There is some controversy on the web about T.S. Wiley's qualifications for developing a medical protocol, since she is not a doctor herself, she studied anthropology (though she co-authored the book "Sex, Lies, and Menopause" with Julie Taguchi, M.D.)

Some women claim wonderful results; others claim very troubling side effects. Does anyone out there have personal experiences to share?

hi again everyone. im happy to say i feel fine now and realized i had put on too much estrogen. its hard to count the lines and my dr had increased my dose a few months ago but i had not correctly calcuated the new amount. ive been applying corect amount for one month now and feel fine. except for weight gain and depression. but i lost my job which was very physical so it's probably that not wiley. also i learned you cannot take herbs on wiley, which i had, becasue they use up hormone receptor sites. also should not take vit d as its a hormone. a lot of drs dont know this which is too bad for the wiley users. youd think it'd be more organized. its so darned expensive! as they increase the estrogen prescription the cost goes up. right now im paying $104 month! and the drs are so darned expensive like $350 for 1st visit, $200 following. and blood tests cost money too, like $250 month, every 3 months, but the wiley removed hot flashes, insomnia, dry skin so i am trying it again. will keep you posted. and why are there not more wiley user blogs on net? seems wiley does not support this, why? sorry for my last post of scary side effects. maybe i can delete or edit it as its not fair to wiley wince it was my error.

It is very scary that someone told you not to take Vitamin D since research shows women with the lowest Vitamin D get the most breast cancer. They should not be making up this bad advice as they go along.
Any bioidentical regimen will get rid of the symptoms you describe--but non Wiley hormones are much less expensive because they do not involve the ridiculous foil bags and syringes as a gimmick. Plus Wiley gets a kickback on your prescription. Real doctors don't get a kickback from the meds they prescribe.
I pay less than $40 per month for my hormones-- actually less since I get three months supply at a time. You can phone Women's International Pharmacy and ask for a doctor near you who prescribes bioidenticals.

people on wiley do not get breast cancer.
you're paying less because it's static dosing (same amount every day).
i prefer rhythmic dosing to duplicate natural cycle.
how old are you? what symptoms did you have and were removed by what amounts and types of hormones?
i am 51. last yr age 50 missed 1st period and began hot flashes/insom/ weight gain for a few months. tried vivelle patch which stopped hot flashes a little but not enough. tried wiley and immediately stopped hot flashes, insom, and weight gain.
i wish there was an alternative as its too expensive, a pain to apply, wiley drs too expensive, and precscription amts seem too arbitrary. ive tried a few wiley certified drs and each prescribes a different dose based on same lab results! what gives? you'd think lab results would spell exact dose.
hopefully someone will invent rhythmic dosing with patches. come on vivelle or someone! im sure its in the works as they see the wiley thing popularity and profit.
why are there no wiley user support groups in person or online? wiley disapproves of users talking? thank goodness for this site though. congrats nanashana for sticking up to nasty dispellers who were saying falsities. good job! hopefully moderator banned them, i think she did. but they'll probably sneak back. ok onward and upward.

There are no online support groups for those doing Wiley anymore because after a few months, the women reported some serious problems. The Wiley people tried to censor those reporting bad side effects, saying "they weren't doing the protocol right"--even tho WIley didn't/couldn't know how they were doing it. WIley shut the online group down to cover up the disasters. WIley's people always blame the patients. One woman on another group said Wiley forbid her to go online and compare symptoms with other users. If the program is so great, you would think it could be discussed openly online, wouldn't you?

That's really interesting information, Anon. Where did you find it?

Everyone who did the Wiley Protocol in Santa Barbara knows about this. I think Wiley's husband's defunct Yahoo board may still be searchable online but has been abandoned. The different pharmacists in Santa Barbara who sued Wiley could tell you more.

Before commencing WP I had finally got lean and looked great (first time my whole life) I think my thyroid medication was finally correct and all other hormones were in balance (hindsight). I have SAD and battle with anemia. I am also celiac.
My Dr. had me on full estro and half proge. I was on WP for 3 months and started to gain fat. She cut my progest in half again. I continued to gain fat. After 6 months I chose to stop using the hormones due to the fat gain. I now look like the "before" pictures for diet commercials. I used to look like the "after" pictures. I think my hormones are not in balance and I do not know what to do about it. It is now 4 months since I stopped using the WP and I have continued to fatten up. I am in dispair.

The massive WP progesterone dosing can take two years to get out of your tissues. That's how long it took the brown "progesterone" stripe on my abdomen to go away and the weight gain to begin to melt. The Wiley people never mention that some people absorb progesterone very deeply. Progesterone is prescribed to people like end-stage cancer patients to help them gain weight. I'm sorry your doctor kept you on the protocol so long when it clearly wasn't good for you. Is your thyroid okay? That's one of the side effects too.
