Dr. Wang explains the goal of cervical spine fusion surgery.
Dr. Wang:
Well, there’s two parts to any type of surgery. First is, sort of the technical aspects. The goal of a cervical fusion is to decompress the spinal cord and the nerves and get a solid fusion and stabilize the spine, but that’s only the technical part of it. The main goal of the surgery is also to make the patient feel better. So the main goal is to make the symptoms go away and so the patient is very happy.
