Barbara discusses the first asthma symptoms her daughter experienced.
Barbara:
Hi, my name is Barbara Adams, and I am here to help because my daughter Jenny passed away six years ago from asthma. She was one of the worst asthmatics. She was in the upper one percent of the worst asthmatics, and we had a 21-year battle that she succumbed to in 2002.
We had been everywhere with her, pulmonologists, allergists; we were even at National Jewish, which is the foremost hospital in Denver for asthma and lung diseases, and we just had a battle that she finally lost in 2002.
She was maybe about 8 or 9 months, and it was early morning. She was in her crib, we were in our bedroom, and I could hear wheezing, and my husband and I realized that that wasn’t normal. And we took her to the pediatrician, and it turned out that she had what was called bronchiolitis, and bronchiolitis is a forerunner for asthma. And she had, I would say, three bouts of that between 8 or 9 months in a year, and then when she was 18 months old, she was diagnosed with asthma.
