Dr. Gonzalez:
The LAP-BAND® procedure is less painful than a gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy. The operation in and of itself is much simpler. The patient has no cutting or pasting of the intestines, so the patients really wake up with less pain.
There are programs around the country that will send the patient home the same day from the operation. We, here at South Miami Hospital, we keep the patients overnight as a precaution for their comfort so that they will be have their pain controlled, their nausea controlled, and when they wake up the next morning, they will be ready to go home.
