Dr. Dao explains how acupuncture can help promote fertility in women.
Dr. Dao:
Acupuncture is very helpful for women’s fertility due to, there are several ways.
First way is that acupuncture actually sensitizes a woman to her hormonal production.
So as we get older our body gets a little bit less sensitive to our own hormone productions, and not only that if we are under a lot of stress, if our body is not healthy a lot of times we’d become duller.
Our sensation become duller. Our organs become duller to these hormone stimulations.
So what we are trying to do is restore that function. Restore that sensitivity, and that’s number one that’s what acupuncture does.
So, frequently you will see that once a woman have acupuncture treatments they have an increased vaginal secretions.
They have increased almost a little bit more premenstrual symptoms. Their breast is a little bit more tender, all the PMS symptoms they used to have when they were younger comes back a little bit more.
So in some ways that their hormone level doesn’t necessarily increase, it’s their sensitivity level, their receptivity increases. So that’s number one what acupuncture can do.
Number two, acupuncture actually help to relax our body. It helps to reduce stress in the body.
It helps your body to increase the secretion of endorphins. It also helps to regulate the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system so the body runs efficiently and relaxed.
When a body is more relaxed everything, again, functions more efficiently. So acupuncture does help to reduce physical stress, and that in turn helps to increase one’s fertility potential – that’s number two.
Number three is that acupuncture also help to improve endocrine secretions. It does help to improve the quality of our hormone production.
So, in the sense that when we have done acupuncture treatment, we are able to, if someone has an elevated FSH level on the second or third day, a lot of times it means their ovarian function is weaker.
So a lot of times we are able to, through acupuncture treatment, after few cycles we are able to decrease the FSH level, restore that function.
And it is because acupuncture does impact on the actual hormone production and secretion as well.
So those are the three main ones. There are a lot of other numerous factors but these are the three main points that acupuncture is very helpful for fertility issues.
