5 Common Pregnancy Pains You Should Be Aware Of

By October 4, 2022 - 2:03am

Pregnancy is one of the rare times in life when something may be both delightful and painful. Pregnancy may appear magical because of the incredible physical changes it causes, but it isn't always rosy. Pregnant women experience a variety of symptoms, many of which are natural.

Here are some of the most common pregnancy pains that are actually completely natural.

1. Leg pain
Pregnant women may experience painful symptoms for a variety of reasons. For example, edema, varicose veins, weight gain, and compression of some nerves in your extremities can all cause leg discomfort and pain. Luckily, there are various solutions you can consider. In addition to using compression stockings, you can lay down and hold your feet higher than the level of your heart. This increases blood flow. You can also stretch your feet to relieve pressure. Swimming is also beneficial since it relieves tension and improves blood circulation in your legs.

2. Lower back pain
Your spinal curvature typically alters throughout pregnancy. Back pain and muscle spasms might be brought on by increased weight. Fortunately, there are certain measures you can use to ease back pain while pregnant:
- Use a support belt. Clearly, additional support is a smart move. A maternity support belt can ease some pregnancy aches and pains and promote good posture. It can also lessen your risk of injuries.
- Maintain better posture. Try standing tall and straight while relaxing your shoulders and holding them back. If it helps, widen your stance as you stand to make you feel more comfortable.
- Consider a massage or cold and heat therapy. A gentle massage and applying a hot or cold compress to the affected area can help you effectively relieve painful symptoms in your lower spine.
- Sleep in a proper position. Use pregnancy pillows that rest behind your back, under your tummy, or between your bent knees. Also, keep in mind that sleeping on your back during pregnancy might cause back pain.

3. Abdominal pain
Many expectant mothers have digestive-related problems. This is because high doses of progesterone released during pregnancy relax smooth muscles, including those in your intestines. As a result, food doesn't go through your digestive system as swiftly as it usually does. Furthermore, many prenatal vitamin pills include iron, which actually contributes to heartburn and gastrointestinal problems.

Constipation is often common, but if it reaches a particular level, you should see a doctor. Use stool softeners, drink more water, and consume additional fiber-rich foods. These remedies are generally safe to use while pregnant, but you should always consult with your doctor before attempting any of them.

4. Round ligament pain
Specific structures in your body are attached to others by ligaments. Round ligaments link your uterus and groin. Ligaments are composed of collagen and elastic fibers and can slightly soften and stretch. This helps to support your pregnant uterus, which will eventually grow in size. Women may feel a tugging sensation around the hip bones due to the stretching of the round ligaments induced by uterine development. Round ligament pain may arise if the ligaments spasm.

Round ligament pain may worsen when you move rapidly or vigorously, particularly in the morning. Wear a maternity support belt, massage the sore areas, soak in a warm bath, avoid sudden or repeated movements, and use painkillers like acetaminophen to alleviate the symptoms.

5. Breast pain
Breast pain can occur when estrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate. Because of the increased blood supply, your breasts expand and prepare to produce milk, making your breast tissue much more sensitive than normal. To alleviate breast soreness, doctors recommend getting a warm bath and taking a pain reliever. Wear a bra that provides enough support as well.
