Touchdown! Three Low-Fat Dips Just in Time for Super Bowl Sunday

Choosing which appetizer to serve on Super Bowl Sunday is a huge decision. While it’s easy to break out the seven-layer dip, jalapeno poppers and brie cheese, be sure to include some healthy options in your Sunday spread.

Try these three healthy takes on classic Super Bowl snacks to ensure your friends and fanatics are well-fed and healthy.

Low-Fat Guacamole

Ingredients:
10-ounce pack of frozen peas
1 small ripe avocado
1/2 cup cilantro, stems removed

2 ripe tomatos, diced
4 cloves garlic, diced
1/3 cup chopped onion (optional)
Squeeze of fresh lime juice
Salt and pepper
Pinch of red chili powder

Directions:
Cook peas according to package instructions. Empty into a colander, drain and rinse with cold water.
Place peas, avocado and cilantro in a blender and blend to desired consistency. Spoon into a bowl with chopped tomatos and onion.
Add a squeeze of lime juice, stir and serve.
Yields 2 cups.

Low-Fat Spinach Dip

Ingredients:
1 pint low-fat sour cream
1 cup light mayonnaise
1 package Knorr vegetable soup mix
1 (10-ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
1/2 cup chopped green onion
1 can chopped water chestnuts

Directions:
Combine all ingredients. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve with veggie sticks or in a round bread bowl with slices of bread on the side.

Low-Fat Black Bean Dip

Ingredients:
1 can cooked and drained black beans
4 teaspoons tomato paste
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 green onions, chopped
2 mild green chilies, chopped
Juice of one lime
Pinch of red chili powder
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Blend all ingredients except onions and chilies in a blender or food processor until smooth, adding water until desired consistency is reached. Garnish green onions and chilies serving warm or at room temperature.
