Famous People Living With Diabetes 4

Halle Berry is one of the most successful actresses in Hollywood today. She acts, she models, and she was a beauty pageant contestant in the 80s and 90s.

However, there has been some controversy over Berry’s diabetes. In the past she has claimed that she has both type one and type two. It is said that she only eats salad and red meat, sometimes with a diet coke to control her blood sugar. But recently, she has taken on a new outlook on living with the disease.

If you have heard claims that Berry cured herself of diabetes, that is impossible to do (believe me, I would cure myself and everyone else if I could!). Rumors about a misdiagnosis of type one diabetes have been surrounding Berry since she claimed to “cure” herself from type one and “advance” to type two diabetes. I just want to make sure that everyone understands that type one diabetes cannot be cured. Also, you cannot “advance” from type one to type two diabetes by eating a certain way or medicating yourself in a certain way.

Please talk with your doctor if you think you have been misdiagnosed or need to find new treatment options. Diabetes is not a walk in the park, it requires a lifestyle change that you cannot make yourself; the support of a doctor is extremely important.

Even with the confusion over her health, there is no denying Berry’s success. She won an Academy Award for her role in Monster’s Ball, and she is one of the recent “Bond Girls.”

Aside from her successful acting career, Berry is a spokesperson for Diabetes Aware (www.diabetesaware.com), a campaign that seeks to educate people about diabetes.
