Why is my period late? Please help!

Okay...I'm 14, about to turn 15, and have had my period for about two years. I have never missed a cycle, and they all seem to come at the end of the month. I just started keeping track on a calendar, and my last cycle started June 26 and ended July 1. I'm just worried because it's almost three days late.

• I have never had sexual intercourse, or anything close to physical contact.
• I had cramps and the usual PMS stuff on July 22 and 23, then it stopped and only happens about once a day.

• Since its summer, my diet has been low on the healthy radar, but not too bad. I drink soda twice a day.
• I haven't been stressed out, but I've been busy with summer assignments.
• I was sick Friday July 24 with headaches and a sick stomach. That usually doesn't happen.

Sorry for the long info, but I'm really freaking out right now. I don't want to tell my mom becasue she will most likely loose it. I've been looking at other websites, like Yahoo Answers, but they told me to take a pregnancy test, which was really scary. Then I found this website and decided to give it a try. Please help! I will glady appreciate it!

Hi Love2Read,

If you have never had sexual intercourse or, as you say, "anything close to physical contact", then why are you so scared to talk to your mom? I don't understand your fear, as you could not possibly be pregnant without sexual intercourse. The websites you've been reading are for women who have a missed period and have had intercourse; thus, it is recommended that they take a pregnancy test.

You can not possibly be pregnant, if you have never had sexual contact.
To learn more about your body, including menstruation and how a pregnancy occurs, you can look at these credible sites:
- Teens and Menstrual Periods
- American Social Health for Teens Sexual Health 101
- of course, you can always ask us a question on ]]>EmpowHer]]>!

With this information, now can you talk with your mom, and tell her your period is late? Tell her you are worried, so she can help. Many girl's and women's periods are irregular, and 3 days late is likely nothing to worry about.

A normal cycle can last anywhere from 21 to 35 days long; a teen's cycle can be up to 45 days long! (How you can know the length of your cycle: the day you start menstrual bleeding is "Day 1", and you could how many days until your next period starts. Then, that day would start over with "day 1" again).

I hope this helps!
