I'm currently 34 years old, breastfeeding my 15 month old son. He's slowing down on nursing sessions-most days we get 3 or 4 sessions in. (Bedtime--some nights, naptime, once during the night, and breakfast). We've been following this pattern for a couple months now. My period still hasn't returned. Sex is extremely painful--we've only attempted 3 times since he was born. Am I in early menopause? I thought with the reduction in nursing, things would return to normal by now.

Anon - Most women experience low levels of estrogen immediately after childbirth and also during breastfeeding. Your doctor is your best bet for information and a determination of whether there is another cause, and for support to determine the cause of the painful intercourse. The following article may be helpful: http://women.webmd.com/normal-testosterone-and-estrogen-levels-in-women We hope you find answers soon. Pat
