Rib cage area pain can be due to anything from pulled muscles to a rib fracture. This pain may occur immediately upon injury or develop slowly over time. It can also be a sign of an underlying medical condition or associated with a medical condition you already have. You should report any instance of unexplainable pain in that area to your doctor, especially if it persists. If you feel it might be caused by a pulled muscle, try warm compresses. Ibuprofen can help with pain and inflammation (if that is something you can take).
