I have been taking Estrace cream. I read that you should take progesterone with it if you have a uterus. However, my pharmacist said if you are older then you need not take it. I am confused. I started taking a progesterone pill (prometrium, not sure how to spell it) and I could not stand the side effects so I stopped. I am now just taking the smallest amount of Estrace that Is needed for my symtoms. I understand that there is also a progesterone patch that is also bioidentical, but do not know if I need it.
Please advise.
thank you,
Debbie

Hello and thank you for sharing your question.

You are right.  In general you need to take both estrogen and progesterone together if you still have a uterus.  I suggest that you ask to your actual doctor instead of the pharmacist.

Each person is different, so even though in theory you can use the progesterone patch if you wish, only your doctor who knows your specific hormone condition and will be able to tell you if it is right for you.
