Hi. Is there a possibility that this condition may be the same for the rest of my life. I am being hopeful and praying that it will go away, but from all the literature and. Lack of prognosis, i have gathered that no one can gaurentee when this condition can go away. I hate myself for being in this position.

Hi Anon,
Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing how long will it last. It all depends on each individual, symptoms and their response to treatment.

Hi Anon,
Welcome to EmpowHER. Signs and symptoms of conversion disorder typically affect your movement or your senses, such as the ability to walk, swallow, see or hear. Conversion disorder symptoms can be severe, but for most people, they get better within a couple of weeks. Treatment will depend on your particular signs and symptoms and may include:
Counseling (psychotherapy). Seeing a psychologist or professional counselor can help treat symptoms of conversion disorder and prevent it from coming back.
Physical therapy. Working with a physical therapist may prevent complications of certain symptoms of conversion disorder. For example, regular movement of arms or legs may ward off muscle tightness and weakness if you have paralysis or loss of mobility. Treating related stress and other conditions. Conversion disorder may improve when you get treatment for stress, anxiety or another underlying problem. Your doctor may prescribe anti-anxiety medications or antidepressants. Hypnosis. Undergoing hypnosis with a trained expert may help a person identify and resolve psychological issues. Transcranial magnetic stimulation. Some reports have shown that people with conversion disorder may benefit from this type of treatment, which involves exciting brain activity by using weak electrical currents. You might need to speak to your insurance company and have them give you a list of other neurologist in your area. Also, you can check with your local hospital and they might know the names of doctor that will accept your insurance.

I still don't have an answer, as to how long this condition can last. I appreciate the response concerning treatment, which I am currently recieving, but nobody seems to know, neither is there any literature as to how long conversion disorder lasts. I have seen write ups of people battling with this condition for 8 to 10 years.
