Hi Anon,
Thank you for your question. COPD is a group of two conditions: Emphysema and Bronchitis. There is no time limit to how long a person can live with COPD, because although there is no cure for it, many lifestyle changes and treatment can help a person with COPD live the rest of their life with it. If someone has mild/moderate COPD, the prognosis is best. Someone with Severe COPD may find it more difficult to control the symptoms. One of the best ways to improve the prognosis of COPD is to stop smoking.
Please do some reading on COPD, treatments, symptoms, and causes here: https://www.empowher.com/chronic-obstructive-pulmonary-disease/content/chronic-obstructive-pulmonary-disease-copd-advocacy-s-0
This is also a great information sheet:

Hope this helps,
Rosa

I have had Copd and Asthma for over 12 years now. Some of these doctors tell me to quit smoking. I quit 19 years ago. Its rough but you learn how to deal with I'd day by day.
