How come I have irregular periods?

I got off birth control in January 2018. I did not get my period until May 2018. I had two periods in July about 28 days apart. Now it is December 1, 2018, and I haven't had a period since July 20, 2018. I went to my doctor and got an ultra sounds and blood work (to test for pregnancy, hormones, thyroid)— she said that I am fine and just have irregular periods. Is anyone else like me? Should I get a second opinion.

Hello, Kmpiazza9.

Thank you for posting.

If you had not already said that you have seen your doctor, that would have been my suggestion - to ease your mind that nothing is wrong. I don't know your age, but it's not uncommon for teens and very young women to have irregular periods from time to time as they mature. It's also not uncommon for periods to be irregular for a time, for some women, after going off birth control. Many women have or will eventually have regular cycles, but not all.

Hi Helena,

Thanks for the insight! I'm 28. I was on birth control for over ten years. As of right now my plan is to stay off it until I get it more often.
