Q:

Fast, loud heartbeat

Why does my heart beat faster and louder than my training partner's. We've observed this both before and after running. My resting heart rate is normally around 100 BPM, about thirty beats faster than the guy's I run with, and ten beats faster than my wife's resting rate. After a 5 km jog my heartbeat is often visible and audible, thumping around 170 BPM or more. I'm 53, slim and quite active, with normal bp. Notwithstanding this I've been told my heartbeat is abnormal and perhaps I should be worried. Can anyone advise me on this? Is it wise for me to run with these symptoms? Has anyone ostensibly fit and active experienced a similar thing? Please help me.
