I’ve had a few different surgeries last year and the last one was on my lower lumbar region due to DDD. September 4 was that date and I stayed in hospital for 8 days. Healed well but my doctor ended up giving me a drop foot permanently on left side. Now I have my sciatic nerve trapped in there somehow so for three weeks I cannot put any weight on it. For the past two weeks I lie down to sleep and my left knee radiates the most incredible pain and turns fire hot and feels like every single nerve ending is constantly firing . It subsided after a few hours of crying and rest but what is causing this intense pain? My sister who is 11 years older has it in her arms and hands but her hands end up turning almost black. Her doctor said that it what a side effect from her cervical fusion. I cannot have this happen every single day. Is this a rheumatologist issue? I’m even on pain management for my back and also migraines . Any advice would be welcome

I'm sorry you are going through this. You mention your sciatic nerve. Sciatic nerve pain is usually caused when a herniated disk or bone spur in the spine presses on the nerve. Pain originates in the spine and radiates down the back of the leg, and usually affects only one side of the body. I can't speak to the procedures you had, but I would address this issue (first) with the doctor who performed your surgery. In the meantime, anti-inflammatories such as Motrin, Advil, or Aleve sold in drug stores can help (if you can take them). A prescription pain reliever might be prescribed if over-the-counter medications are not helping.
