Rachelle,
The above suggestions sound really good, about getting a baseline started with your hormonal levels and consulting your doctor first.
I have concerns when I hear people say they are "starting a new diet" vs. "starting a new lifestyle". "Diets" usually don't work, because they end up being temporary, inflexible, strict and guilt-producing. Humans don't eat and exercise well under those conditions! There are some great posts on this site about other women's ideas on Weight Management:

Have you considered using the money you would pay for Weight Watchers, and use it on a Registered Dietitian (RD) and Personal Trainer?

Personally, I admit to the occasional "detox" when my system feels particularly sluggish. But, it's not for weight loss. I believe in eating real food: whole, organic versus packaged processed foods; consuming good fats and using fresh herbs in my cooking; staying hydrated; eliminating refined sugar and white flour, and trying to keep up my fitness program (I'm a marathoner).
It seems that many weight loss programs begin with some sort of detox in the form of a liquid diet for 2-3 days. I think you should consult your doctor.
Who told you to detox before beginning your weight loss program? Menopause weight gain is natural, and there are reasons why our maturing bodies can't store any more of the fats we consume.
What is the detox program you're considering?

Thanks for posting. Are you speaking specifically of a program called Detox or are you generally using the term?
What I needed to get my weight in check was get my thyroid in order and then getting on the right HRT program. It's what I refer to as a hormonal bloat and I always said that I felt like SpongeBob. There's water that gets trapped in
the layer of the dermis and you can take water pills for it but nothing works. You feel bloated all the time. Here's the symptoms of hormonal bloat:
Can't wear rings on your fingers because they're bloated;
Face looks swollen or bloated;
Those shoes that used to fit you -- not so much anymore;
And let's not even go there with the thousands of pants or jeans on the floor because none of them would fit.
Weight Watchers may help you but you still need to get your hormone in balance so you need to get your blood work and find a great program.
Let me know though about your detox program.
Hope this helps.
