Thank you so much for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community! Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the third leading cause of death in the United States, according to the American Lung Association.
Environmental factors can certainly cause COPD. Among the most significant factors are:
1. Smoking cigarettes
2. Long-term exposure to second-hand or passive smoke
3. Exposure to pollutants
4. Inhaling toxins or other irritants
