Hi Anon,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your question with EmpowHER! Congratulations on your pregnancy! During the first trimester of a pregnancy, vaginal bleeding is common with some women. However, if you are having heavy bleeding with clots, it could also be the sign that there is a problem. Spotting or light bleeding may not be very serious, but heavy bleeding that is darker could be a sign of a threatened misscarriage.

That is good you already contacted your doctor when this happened and set up an appointment! It will be good to have an ultrasound and check up from your doctor so they can see what exactly is going on and to make sure your pregnancy is healthy. Even though you can't see your doctor until Monday, it may be a good idea to call them and explain your most recent symptoms.

In the meantime, I wouldn't do anything too strenuous. Make sure you have a loved one or friend around to keep an eye out and help you with any other complications.

I hope this helped! Please keep me updated after you visit the doctor and let me know if you have further questions.

Best,
Erin
