Helen introduces herself and describes when she knew she wanted to have bariatric surgery.

Helen:
Hi, I am Helen. I am a patient of Dr. Liu’s. I met Dr. Liu two years ago when I had my LAP-BAND® surgery, and I have lost 80 pounds and I’d like to share my story with you.

I tried all kinds of diets, diet classes, diet programs, this ones, that ones, and I would lose weight, but then I would gain weight, plus I would gain weight, and it got to the point where when I was going clothing shopping I realized I am too fat. I need to do something about this, and I am going to have a very short life if I don’t do something about this.

So I started to read about the LAP-BAND®, and I discussed it with my doctor, told her that I thought this was something that would be good for me because I am older. I am not a young chick that’s going to have this surgery. So I thought the LAP-BAND® would be better. It’s less invasive for me, and then I looked into it further and I found Dr. Liu, had my appointment with Dr. Liu, and I just was sold the first day I saw him.

You know, not really sold, but I believed in him. I believed in him as number one, a person, that he is honest. He is not going to pull the wool over my eyes. He is going to do what he says he is going to do, and he was very upfront that I could not look at this as a fix because LAP-BAND® is not a fix. LAP-BAND® is a change of life and you have got to change your life, and I decided I am going to do this. So about a month later, I had my LAP-BAND® surgery.
