Nurse Practitioner Dale Ann Dorsey discusses the role of a nurse practitioner and explains if insurance companies cover this care.

Dale Ann Dorsey:
A nurse practitioner started out as a registered nurse and went on to receive additional and advanced training. We are graduate-level nurses and we deal with primary health.

We can do many of the things that your primary care physician can do for you. We are able to evaluate. We can diagnose illnesses.

We can prescribe medications and ultrasounds, X-rays, other diagnostics and we refer to specialty providers when that’s necessary.

One way that you can tell that I am a nurse practitioner is that I have W.H.N.P. after my name – that means Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.

And a nurse practitioner will have N.P. in their initials and there are many different specialties that N.P.s are a part of whether it’s family health or adult care or pediatrics.

Your healthcare with a nurse practitioner is covered by many insurance companies.
