Missy describes how women can prevent incontinence during physical exercise.

Missy:
One thing that’s really important with women who are active, that run or play tennis or play golf--they don’t want to clearly be, they clearly don’t want to be leaking when they are in the middle of their exercise. So, one thing we always talk to them about is making sure you fully go or fully void before your start your exercise program.

So, what’s that about? Well, that’s first of all making sure you sit down and take your two minutes and relax and try to make sure that all the urine gets out and then if you are not sure we have a little tip called ‘rock & roll’ and that is to just sit there on the toilet, do not stand up, just literally rock back and forth, side-to-side, front and back, and see if any more urine comes out.

The reason this is important is, when the bladder is empty it is kind of like crumple that baggy and there are little crevices where residual urine can hide out. So, if you are rushing or just whatever, and you go to the bathroom, sometimes there is urine left in and you are able to signal back to your brain that it has to go again. So it’s really important to just try to get all of that urine out and sometimes just the ‘rock & roll’ technique can make all the difference.
