Dr. Eilber discusses urinary incontinence treatments.

Dr. Eilber:
The treatment for incontinence is dependent on the type of incontinence a woman has. The typical stress incontinence, or incontinence that occurs with an increase in abdominal pressure, that patient has leakage with coughing, sneezing and exercising, and then it is typically done or fixed with some type of surgical procedure.

The newer procedures are very minimally invasive, all done through the vaginal canal as an outpatient; recovery is very quick. Women who have incontinence associated with overactive bladder, that is traditionally treated with medication, also have the opportunity now to have Botox injected into the bladder which treats it. There also are nerve stimulators that can treat the condition, as well.
