Dr. Eilber shares if women who deliver large babies are more likely to experience pelvic floor disorders and explains if young women also suffer from urinary incontinence.

Dr. Eilber:
Absolutely. Although it’s much less common, there are many young women who also suffer typically from stress incontinence. For some reason women who are very extreme athletes often have stress incontinence. For those patients I strongly recommend they do injections and not surgery, especially if they are planning on having children in the future.

If a young woman has neurologic issues such as multiple sclerosis or other conditions, they tend to have overactive bladder-type issues which are typically treated with medications.

Absolutely. A woman who has had either more deliveries or larger children have a higher risk of having pelvic floor disorders, and on the converse, a woman who has had purely elective C-section has a minimal to no risk of vaginal prolapse.
