Dr. Aklog describes the treatments for tricuspid valve disease.

Dr. Aklog:
Let's talk about the treatment of tricuspid valve disease. Since most patients with tricuspid valve disease have a leaky tricuspid valve, usually secondary to an abnormality of the heart or one of the other valves. The tricuspid valve is actually, can really the vast majority of the time be repaired, and the repairs are actually less complex than repairing other valves in the heart.

Tricuspid valve can usually be repaired by simply implanting a ring that tightens the valve and allows the valve leaflets, the portions of the valve, to come together and form a seal. There are some occasions where the valve is diseased to the point where it can’t be repaired, such as if there was an infection that destroyed a portion of the valve, and in that case the valve would need to be replaced either with a valve made out of animal tissue or a mechanical valve.
