Dr. Bremner, M.D., Ph.D., is surgical director of the Center for Thoracic Disease and chief of thoracic surgery at the Heart & Lung Institute, St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, explains the type of doctor who performs lung transplant procedures in this video interview.
Dr. Bremner:
The person that does the lung transplant is usually a cardiothoracic trained surgeon. There are some centers like we have at St. Joe’s where the transplant surgeons are lung surgeons specifically, so they are not just, they don’t do cardiac surgery anymore; they concentrate particularly on lungs and we feel that that gives the transplant surgeons a bit of an advantage since that they are working with lungs on a daily basis.
