Dr. Terris:
Hello, I am Dave Terris. I am the Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. I am also the Surgical Director of the MCG Thyroid Center, and my practice is confined to the management of thyroid and parathyroid diseases.

So a thyroidectomy is the removal of the thyroid gland, and it can include removal of half of it or of the entire gland.
