Dr. Terris explains the thyroid lobectomy procedure.
Dr. Terris:
So there’s basically just two operations that we do for the thyroid nowadays. It’s a thyrolobectomy, which means removing half of the gland, or a total thyroidectomy, which means removing both lobes. So it’s either half or total. In years past, we would occasionally leave some thyroid tissue deliberately. That’s really .. we caution against that nowadays.
