Dr. Wright describes how family and friends can approach a person with a thyroid condition in a compassionate manner.

Dr. Wright:
Don’t be afraid. The thing that happens is, when someone has an illness or the behavior is altered, people act as if the person is suddenly made of glass, and that generates a doubt of trust. So if you want to be an advocate or speak for someone, trust that they are going to be capable and competent in responding. And if you don’t, then ask for clarity if you don’t understand. Don’t assume that the person is not able to deal with the situation.
