Dr. Su explains the causes of supraventricular tachycardia/SVT.

Dr. Su:
So the cause of supraventricular tachycardia, there are several different abnormal circuits or irritable spots that we have names for, irregular spots that are often called ectopic atrial tachycardia or atrial tachycardia, and these are abnormal group of cells that actually take over normal function of the heart. There are abnormal circuits which can be different types of abnormal circuits. They are named such as AV node re-entrant tachycardia or AVNRT. That’s a circuit near the AV node of the heart, the center part of the heart.

There are AV re-entrant tachycardia, often caused by abnormal pathway or abnormal connection between top and bottom chamber of the heart. So there are many, many different abnormal rhythms, and even just very irregular rhythm called atrial fibrillation, which is used to be considered was a chaotic rhythm but that is actually becoming curable nowadays too.
