Dr. Weber shares her motivation for helping female athletes improve their health.

Dr. Weber:
Well, one, I am a woman. Two, I was a female, I am a female athlete and I, you know, played sports through high school and college and, you know, I always felt like the girls took, you know, kind of the backseat to the guys’ teams when it came to care and I always thought that that wasn’t right. And I always thought, “Well, if I could do something down in the future, what would I do?” And so my interest grew in medicine and the fact that working with female athletes and their problems and their kind of conditions and injuries that I see and that happened, that, you know, what a great way if I can really start to work with these females and develop a program, a women’s sports medicine program that’s really designed to look at females and really try to develop programs that will help them where they feel that they can come and get the care that they want.

Now that’s not to say that I don’t have guys involved in that program because, of course, men want to help the women athletes as well, but I think that we are really trying to work at developing a very good, comprehensive program to really help the female athletes and the females that are just wanting to be active or that are weekend warriors that get injured.
