Keeping your hair healthy and beautiful does not have to cost a fortune. In fact, with just a few common household ingredients, you can give your hair a deep moisturizing treatment, subtle highlights and prevent dandruff. Here is a list of homemade hair treatments made with household ingredients and inexpensive
(easy to find) oils:

Coconut oil-- Buy a good quality coconut oil from a health food store. Use virgin coconut oil made from fresh coconut meat rather than a refined coconut oil which has been stripped off its beneficial nutrients. Heat 3/4 cup of coconut oil. After the oil has melted , massage one tablespoon into the scalp. After you gently finger massage, apply the remainder of the oil to your hair. Wrap your hair in a warm towel and leave for at least an hour before washing out. You could also cover your pillow with a towel and leave the oil in overnight. Also, jojoba and olive oil work wonders to condition the hair and scalp.

Mayonnaise--Another wonderful treatment is simple mayonnaise (which contains oil to nourish the hair) and egg (which is a natural conditioner). For an extra deep-conditioning treatment for dry or damaged hair, add half an avocado and 1/3 cup mayonnaise and mash until creamy. Apply to the hair and cover with a shower cap. Leave for about 30 minutes and wash out. You can wrap your hair in plastic and a warm towel to allow the conditioner to penetrate more deeply.

Aloe Vera--A dollop of aloe vera gel does wonders to control frizz, enhance curls and condition the hair.

Rosemary--A rosemary hair rinse is excellent for oily hair and helps dark hair retain its color. Simply simmer 1/4 cup fresh or dried rosemary in two cups water for about ten minutes. Strain and apply to hair; leave in overnight.

Rosemary and Sage--To restore the color in graying hair, simmer equal parts rosemary and sage in water, and strain. Apply to the hair daily until you are satisfied with the results.

Apple Cider Vinegar--To remove hair product build-up, you can make a rinse from apple cider vinegar mixed with water, poured on the hair after you wash and condition. You do not need to rinse it out. You can vary the ratio depending on the condition of your hair but generally about 1/2 cup cider vinegar to 1 1/2 cups cold water will effectively remove product build-up.

Also, here are some natural food products to enhance the color of your hair. A mixture of equal parts carrot and beet juice will bring out the tones in red hair. For brunettes, soak in very strong black coffee. For blondes, mix lemon juice with a little olive oil, slather on your hair and sit in the sun for about half an hour to bring out your natural highlights. Also, a strong chamomile tea as a final rinse will enhance blond hair.

Ginger. Ginger is an excellent dandruff remedy. Grate a knob of fresh ginger and squeeze out about 1 tablespoon juice (you can do this using a small strainer or squeeze between two spoons). Mix with one teaspoon lemon juice, one teaspoon sesame oil and massage into the scalp. Leave on for about 30 minutes before washing out. Repeat three times a week until the condition improves.

Please feel free to add your own home hair remedies in the comments section of this story. And remember, good quality hair care products can be easily found in your kitchen and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to have beautiful hair.

If you are allergic to coconut oil such as I am you can use grape seed oil or extra virgin olive oil or castor oil or almond oil. You pick whatever works best for you.

I have a few really great tips for hair which are really very helpful. I always do this and it looks great as well as working well.

The first thing is whenever you wash your hair keep a paper cup in the shower, your actually going to like this, pour less than half a cup shampoo in the cup and the rest fill it up with water mix it well and pour it on your hair. Less shampoo the better because they all are chemicals and they are not very good. Using shampoo this way after awhile you see your hair being light and your hair feeling better this way.

Pantene, Dove, Tresemme are not very good shampoo because they are hundred percent chemicals. The best are garnier and herbal essence. These two shampoo are part natural because they have lots of fruit and natural ingredients in them.

If you have dry and frizzy hair this is the best thing to do. You would need to buy these following products; bottle of clear aloe vera gel, bottle of jojoba oil and small empty bottle with lid. Fill up the empty bottle with the clear aloe vera gel and 4 drops of jojoba oil in it. Mix it well and close the lid. Keep it on your dresser and daily take one big dab of this mixture and rub it on your scalp. The follicles of your scalp opens up and regrows new healthy hair. Your scalp and hair stays fresh and smooth. Don't use it as hair gel just for your scalp or else your hair will come out greasy. This is very natural and healthy for the hair.

If you have severe dandruff what you can do is use white vinegar. Take a cup pour half of white vinegar the rest water, mix it then pour it on your hair and keep it on your hair for an hour. Then shampoo your hair and doing this vinegar like once a week you will see good results.

Yes, for the best result......don't wash your hair.
I backpacked around the world for 2 years with my girlfriend.
We both decided not to wash our hair and after the first 6 weeks (in which our hair was truely disgusting) it eventually got better and better.

We both had long hair and all we did was rinse with plain water, usually from a bucket, sink or stream. Because of the natural oils, it never really got wet and was completely dry in a few minutes.

We also combed it every couple of days using a comb with rounded ends so it wouldn't damage the scalp. It always looked great and after returning home I always intended to keep it that way.

However, after attending a party with many people smoking....I was forced to wash it to removed the smell. That was a big mistake as only one wash puts you back at the start.

This is going to sound really gross but... don't wash your hair. At all. I haven't in over two weeks and my hair is shinier, not frizzy at all (and I have some curly hair!), uses less product, isn't oily... It's great! I do recommend researching this method, because although using nothing works for me, for some people, baking soda and apple cider vinegar is a better option. My logic was, "What's the worst that can happen, I have to wash my hair if it doesn't work out?" So far, no problems.

I did no shampoo or conditioner for a month as an experiment, but because of my hard water and my hair's tendency to build up oils fast it got pretty hard near the end. I am a huge fan of applying coconut oil to my hair every other day before I wash it out though, and there are a TON of people who do either no shampoo or conditioner at all and many who just wash with conditioner.
